The Forbes Chev-Olds 200
was threatened by rain for the entire day, but the weather held
and the race ran full distance. Johnny recorded a fifth fastest
lap in the time trials and then drew outside pole for the Dash.
After a great battle with Ben Rowe, Johnny finished second and
started on the outside pole of the feature.
The 200 saw fast and clean racing
and almost no major car damage. Johnny ran with the lead pack in
the first portion of the race. On lap 73, the #54 pitted for
four fresh tires with about half of the lead cars. Back on track
Johnny set to move back to the front but just wasn't hooked up
well enough to challenge for the win (a condition echoed by
several other competitors).
The #54 moved up to sixth and settled in for the steady green
flag racing that saw the 200 laps completed in 66 minutes.
The final placing of sixth
leaves Johnny still in the PASS points standings lead but the
margin is reduced by 10 markers to 18. |
