A solid run to third place at Canaan
Fair Speedway on August 29th leaves the #54 in first in the PASS points standings with a
34 point lead and three events remaining on the schedule.
Johnny Clark topped twenty-five other racers in Sunoco Race Fuel time trials with a lap of
14.005 seconds, edging out Sam Sessions (14.029) and Ben Rowe (14.070) for the honors.
Drawing the pole for the Dash certainly made the run for the Dash win easier.
The feature shaped up into a five car contest involving Johnny, Ben Rowe, Richie Dearborn,
Cassius Clark, and Larry Gelinas. Richie passed Johnny for the lead and had a fine run
going. Restarts shuffled the front runners since the outside groove was not the place to
be - little grip there probably due to the heat. Gelinas dropped out with a mechanical
problem. Ben moved his way up from a 9th place starting spot into the lead. Restarts with
lapped cars among the lead cars further complicated things. Johnny fell back to sixth at
one point and then moved on up again, taking third from Cassius near the end. Richie
posted his second 2nd place of 2004. |
